Last weekend I went to an estate sale at a place that used to be a Jewish Summer Camp - now it's a bunch of weird houses down a gated driveway. They held the estate sale in what was -- I asked once I saw the shuffleboard markings on the floor -- the recreation hall.
There were a few things there that made me go "WTF!?" in my head, but I was trying to be discreet and only photographed two things:
I called this the "Tony Montana living room set" because it rocketed straight out of the late 70's early 80's and into my heart.
Please note the large black lacquer/glass/brass entertainment center against the wall, surrounded by very super puffy tufted white leather sectional, love seat and arm chair. These were in pretty good shape but I was looking around for the "The World Is Yours" neon enhanced /fountain.
This guy was very close to the Tony Montana living room set:
Holy bears, Batman. "Teddy" wasn't very large as far as black bears go, but I almost walked right into him before realizing what he was.
This is one reason why I love estate sales so much. I never know what I'm walking into. Some people are great, some are kind of crazy (like the cranky bullfrog we dealt with at the fake estate sale) and sometimes it's full of Studio 54 rejects and enormous wildlife.
There were also two jackalopes for sale. I unfortunately didn't photograph them, but this is a dead ringer for the one I seriously considered purchasing for $45. I would have put him on the mantle, of course. Maybe I could have strung mardi gras beads between his antlers for various holidays. He would have been a lovely addition to my home! But sanity prevailed (meaning Randy put his foot down) and I left him where I found him. Perhaps someone else gave him a good home.
I am late to the party, but I'm linking this with Sir Thrift A Lot's WTF Tuesday .
